Something beautiful: Eyes of a saint

Updated: Dec 11, 2024

St Francis Receiving the Stigmata, El Greco and studio, circa 1570

For its small size, the New Orleans Museum of Art houses a surprising number of historic masterpieces—including this painting of St Francis of Assisi (see our saint of the week post about him). El Greco isn't my favorite artist, but I admire. his masterful use of light, and I find Francis' eyes particularly striking here. Remember that NOMA is free for Louisiana residents on Wednesdays! Have a good, true, and beautiful weekend.
