Gift idea guide: Last minute gifts

  1. Amazon Prime subscription, from $99: This annual subscription offers huge value for literally anyone anywhere: infinite video and music streaming options, countless free Kindle books, fast and free shipping on whatever they need, (parental controls if you need them!), and other special features and offers. (Pro tip: You can get special rates for young adults and students).

  2. Amazon egift card, any dollar amount: The only place you can buy a chaise lounge, charging cables, chocolate, and chicken feed all at the same time. Super versatile for lots of gift occasions.

  3. Door Dash egift card, from $25: There is no one alive who doesn't want to order take out and have it delivered tonight instead of cooking. Door Dash is ubiquitous, so anyone anywhere can enjoy it.

  4. Chat books subscription, from $24: My love for our Chatbooks subscription goes beyond words. The free app generates a monthly 30-60 page photo book from your phone's camera roll, then mails it to you automatically. The app is easy to use if they want to customize their monthly photo book. You can gift them a three-, six-, or twelve-month subscription. (Pro tip: I have found that from kids to grownups, all of us look at photo albums so much more often and more "together" than scrolling a phone.)

  5. The Little Catholic egift card, from $25: This small business makes stunning, high-quality Catholic jewelry. The designs are beautiful and handmade to last and pass down. Your recipient can use the egift card to select earrings, pendants, medals, bracelets, rings, cuff links, or headbands. (You can see their bestsellers here to get an idea of the styles.)

  6. Hallow prayer app gift subscription, $30/3 months or $70/year: Hallow is the wildly popular prayer app with seemingly infinite incredible content to help them pray, meditate, and learn. The app is visually stunning, but the real treasure is the wide range of "voices" leading the content—from celebrities to religious to influencers to bishops.

  7. Coffee-mystic monk subscription, from $12 monthly or egift card, from $15: For years, we have happily subscribed to Mystic Monk for excellent beans whose purchase supports a Carmelite monastery. You can set up a monthly subscription for any coffee or tea product in any amount, even just one bag. Another subscription source of good beans where your purchase will apply beyond profit: Seven Weeks, which supports services for pregnant women.

  8. Echo Community retreat: Give your loved one the powerful, life-changing gift of an Echo retreat. I can't speak highly enough of this ministry and the deep intentionality of all its work. Echo offers retreats tailored for teens, young adults, women, men, engaged couples, and married couples.

  9. Catholic Musician gift subscription, $10 monthly or $99/year: A subscription blesses Catholic musicians, singers, and songwriters with access to tons of high-quality content to help them grow and create, including music from The Vigil Project and courses by leading Catholic musicians and ministers.

  10. Tickets to live events: Experience gifts are my favorite because you not only gain the joy of the actual event, but also the joy of anticipating and preparing and then the joy of memories. Search here for sporting events, concerts, comedy shows, monster truck rallies, and more, then print out the ticket confirmation and wrap it up for a wonderful gift.

  11. Perpetual enrollment in Masses offered at the National Basilica, suggested donation $50: There is truly no gift greater than grace. Prayer is not merely thinking of someone or offering emotional support; prayer quite literally changes things. The graces and help bestowed by offering Masses for your loved ones is impossible to measure.

  12. Movie egift card, from $15: At least one of these always makes it onto my shopping list every gift-giving season. They're a wonderful, widely-accessible experience gift that almost anyone can enjoy. You can even create your own customized egift card with your own photos or images.
